Back in the 70s and 80s, my grandparents were forever buying annual proof sets of U.S. coins as well as "commemorative" coins which were supposedly produced by the U.S. mint.
My grandmother gave me these coins and I’m wondering if they have any real value … or were my grandparents simply taken for a ride by mail order companies?
She also gave me about a dozen "silver certificate" 1-dollar bills from the 1930s. Are these of any value?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hey Blue T, thanks for the advice. But just to elaborate, these coins are proofs, sealed in plastic.

I do know SBA’s were minted in 79′ 80′ 81′ and 99′ for a 10 year anniversary. They appeared in 79-81 proof sets, but not in 99. Any reasons?

The Kennedy 50 cent piece has a bright, shiny dot in the matte finish area of the neck on the profile side, pretty much in the dead center. I would say its 1-2 millimeters in diameter. I compared it to other proof sets and they do not have the spot.

I got 4 United States Proof Sets from my Great Grandmother, and I know they are from 1979, but there appears to be 2 different types for that year. Does anyone know how I can tell the difference between the two?
