Why is the 2001 Silver Buffalo worth more then other US commemorative coins?

Commemorative Coins 2 Comments »

I recently purchased a 2010 1 o.z. Gold Buffalo coin. After this, I wanted a matching silver buffalo and purchased on eBay a 2001 Silver Buffalo Commemorative Dollar. I have a 2011 Coin Red Book, and the mintage figures are about the same IF NOT more then some other dates but the specific 2001 Silver Buffalo is worth over 0+ compared to say a 2000 Leif Ericson has 28,150 mints and the 2001 Buffalo has 227,131. Why is this? Again, mintage seems to be on par with other years so I don’t think it’s that. Thanks!!!

Commemorative Coins 1 Comment »

Hi,
I want to get this item as a gift for someone and from what I can tell it seems genuine enough, just wondering if anyone could confirm if it’s genuine or not?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170597174905&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Hope someone can help, I don’t want to buy someone a fake.

Thanks!

Where can I sell some commemorative coins?

Commemorative Coins 1 Comment »

I have like a hundred of these college football centennial medallions. But, I don’t need a hundred of the buggers, and would much rather have some cash. Does anyone know of a good place to sell such memorabilia? And I don’t want eBay, it’s too hit and miss. I need somewhere that is more or less a sure-fire sell.

Are you going to buy an Obama commemorative coin, the one with Obama on the front and Abe Lincoln on the back?

Commemorative Coins 18 Comments »

I saw Montel Williams selling these things on MSNBC. Personally, I found it more than just a little tacky. It’s an ounce of zinc clad in gold plate. It’s about the size of an Olympic medal and more than just a little garish.
*****Yes, I’m waiting for somebody to find a corn flake that looks like Obama to list it on Ebay.
P.T. Barnum would be proud of the people selling these coins.

Silver Commemorative Coin Value?

Commemorative Coins 1 Comment »

My wife asked me a question, and I couldn’t give her an answer, which always bothers me. So I thought maybe I could get an expert opinion on here.
I have a .999 Fine silver Commemorative Liberty Coin. The coin is dated 1991. The coin weighs 1 lb.

So basically the question is what does a 1 lb .999 fine silver commemorative coin sell for these days? Has a picture of lady Liberty on front, with the year 1991, and Eagle on back.

It is basically this coin

http://cgi.ebay.com/2002-SILVER-EAGLE-REPLICA-1LB-1-TROY-POUND-.999-SILVER_W0QQitemZ350150119806QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090107?IMSfp=TL090107158006r37908

But instead of "One troy pound" on the back, it says "1 LB. .999 Fine Silver" The date on front is 1991. Other than that, same coin.

Grading Coins Before Selling

Should I Get my gold coins graded before selling?

I have 50 Gold coins (1990 Irish 50 ECU) that I plan to sell on Ebay. I’ve heard that some graders will give you a higher grade if you pay them more. I want to know if it is worth it to take my coins to a grader.

How much silver in the Babe Ruth 1895-1995 Commemorative Coin?

Commemorative Coins 1 Comment »

Its the one issued under Fathers of Baseball with certificate of authenticity. It give the diameter and says content is nickel silver but does not indicate the silver content amount.
The coin does not state 1 oz of silver on it. I did follow the link to the ebay listed coin which is the same coin but how they know that it is almost all silver I think is a guess. The coin has information on its holder and it only says nickel silver.
