  1. BD in NM Says:

According to CoinValues magazine you paid full retail for the set. By the way there was no "silver" proof set for 1963. The coins are made of 90% silver because that is how regular circulating coins were made back then. The "silver" proof sets made today are a special metal composition which is why they use the term "silver" to distinguish it from regular composition proofs.

You did not overpay and got a good collectible item for a reasonable price. I think you did okay.

Skippy said its worth about 16 bucks. So you might have made a dollar.

It was not a good deal but you did not get taken either. They are selling for around $14 to $16 retail. After one buys something it is actually to late to ask the question you did. You need to ask it before you buy. it would not hurt for you to get a price guide like Coin Worlds Coin Values or the insert price guide in Numismatic News. Both come out the first of the month. The way to do well in coins is to study the series of coins you like, then learn more about them than the dealers, while not letting the dealers know you do.
